Land (2021) Movie Review

Hey everyone welcome back to Silver Screen Spectacle! We’ve got a new movie review today with an indie film Land. You can find the film playing in select theaters and available for digital rental. This movie is about a woman who moves out off the grid after experiencing personal tragedy.

Robin Wright gives an okay performance. She gets some moments to shine and really impress me. However, she also got plenty of moments that were unintentionally funny at how badly they got delivered. Demian Bichir’s performance was also an extremely mixed bag. For half of his screen time, he’s strong and has a likable dynamic with Wright. The other half fell totally flat. Robin Wright makes her directorial debut with sadly poor results. I found this movie to come across as extremely poorly directed in almost every sense. As for the script, I mostly hated it. The second act had a few well-written moments but can’t make up for the rest of the movie. For the first act, I was getting annoyed at how pretentious it all felt while the final third gets comically overwritten. There were two aspects of this movie that I liked a lot. First, the musical score was really beautiful and kept things watchable. Then there’s Bobby Bukowski’s incredible cinematography, which was consistently stunning and easily my favorite part of the film.

Overall, while there were aspects of this movie, I appreciated it did not work for me. This is definitely not unwatchable and I know it will work for many people who are into this type of movie, but for me, the bad far outweighed the good. So, guys, that’s it for this review as always if you enjoyed it give it a share and I’ll see you next time.

4/10
